Morley River - Rancheria, Yukon
June 12

Right after leaving Morley River we hit construction.

At Swift River Lodge, Nelson plowed on ahead and I opted for a candy bar and Fruitopia drink. I asked some folks who drove in from the north whether they'd seen Ritt and Carol behind me. The motorists said there were two bicyclists just 5 minutes out, so I waited -- for an hour. I learned that motorists can't be trusted to estimate bicycle speed. Carol and Ritt arrived and we had coffee.

Ritt enjoys bird watching and checking various waterfowl against his bird book using his binoculars. It is a far more relaxed pace than most of the other riders. I enjoyed the rest of the day, lolling along looking at the birds.

We had company at our lunch stop; a family of gray jays were all over us.

Late in the day, Carol, Ritt and I reached the boardwalk to Rancheria Falls, locked our bikes to a tree and walked in to the falls. There are 2 Rancheria Falls; one that looks like the true source of Guinness Stout and another with a comfortable viewing platform where we ate a snack.

As expected, we arrived late again. Unexpectedly, our tents were already erected at one of the nicest campgrounds yet.

That evening we went to the lounge (bar) and powered up the Mac to download photos from the Kodak DC50 and Casio QV30 digital cameras. A beer tasted pretty good too.

65 Miles.
